visits 4 Corners 3/24/02
We been kinda burried into winter projects here. Some go faster than others. One of the fine fellas in the CFSJA group came down from Aurora over the weekend. He has been holding some parts for us and was about ready to clear his head with a highway run with his newest FSJ. A real nice 80 J10 shortbed. I can relate to this truck, because my second J truck was an 81 set up real similar. A 258 (4.2 L) straight six that has had a long history with AMC and Rambler. The tranny is the T-176 and a NP208 transfer case. The 81 changed some J features. The front top of the cab was smoothed off. Hari has the last of the "visor" roof lines.
The six is a good motor, but with factory gearing higher by the 80s, they have tough pull over some of the mountains. Hari plans to modify the truck slightly. =8-) A set of J20 axels, a 401 and a T18 tranny will make a big difference. He plans to use the truck as more of a work truck than show or trail runner. Before he headed home on Sunday, we checked the weather and thought we should take and easy ride up to Sharkstooth trail head at the base of the La Plata mountains. Turns out the trail was closed shortly after entering San Juan Nat'l Forest. So, we opted for a spot to shoot a few pix. Krista was driving Phoebe, who is familiar with the drive. We are grateful to have friends on the other end of the state that enjoy our country living and like to visit with thier FSJs!
